Based in Boston, MA,  This Life is a practice is a collection by Erin Mckay. Her posts explore what it means to be true and authentic to oneself, through joys and the challenges, ultimately leading to discovery of what we are meant to do in this one, fleeting lifetime!

One Moment

You've got a hold of me
(but the thing is the timing is all wrong)
it's the kind of hold that is soft
and gentle
supportive grasp
enveloping my whole body
but also my heart
that calms
when you're near
(not always physical distance)
but that's the thing about this
traveling through time and space
to be near to you
no boundaries, no limits
(which at times can be disorienting)
because this limitless love
that travels through the ethers
while soft, gentle, and ecstatic
is also ensnaring
entangled (confusing?)
what can you do with a love like that?
love as immense as the ocean
where one drop permeates
my being so greatly and so vastly
one drop is all it takes
for a sphere of condensation to become the sea
life and energy
light that shines into my deep creases
wind that blows away the dirt and dust saying
yes, darling, your light shines too
shall we shine together?
and when your hands touch my skin so lightly
(are they even really there?)
it ignites me
and I tremble--from my toes to my root, to my skin
a whole body shiver that is meant
to be a nod saying yes--
yes, this is right
even if we once thought
the timing was wrong
we find that cannot be,
because all of time stands still and flies forward and back
at the same time
all that ever was or is
is now and then and yet to come
all one simultaneous moment
concurrently always experiencing you
and never knowing you
all in the same moment
I for one so glad for the entanglement
picking through the sticky web of time,
each silver strand
more beautiful and extravagant than the last
and also chaotic as each star exploding into dust
but there is actually so much order
the perfect order, the perfect timeline
it all happens in perfect time
in no time at all
