I speak and people listen
and I'm still afraid to speak?
afraid to speak truth
Rewrite redo respond
to our white washed
one way street of passivity
watching
afraid of slipping into the mud and muck
lest we get stepped on
like the least amongst us
afraid of losing
what, exactly?
My whiteness in the mirror
blinding me
my privilege reflected back to me
speak speak speak
I'll whisper it until I can shout it
Listen.
Trying to listen, unblocking ears
to the rushing sounds of injustice and
despair wailing around me
Look.
And stare the face of injustice in the eye
until it backs down.
No more no more no more
know more
Why aren't we angry?
Don't let them tell you
anger is a bad thing
excuses to subdue
and prevent the spark that will burn it all down.
